Hopefully he doesn't think I'm being too presumptuous in asking of this. I am going to contact my old CO, explain my medical situation and everything to him, and possibly send him a copy of of an example letter that I feel is relative to my situation and ask him what he thinks of it. If so, you may need to compel your new CO to write it or at least volunteer to write it and then have him/her review it prior to signing off on it. I'm not sure if there is a regulation stating that your current unit commander must be the individual who writes these letters. If not, I would advise going after your current CO. If the old CO is willing then I'd run with it, especially if you think the old CO would write a recommendation favorable to your case. I would advise emailing your old CO to ascertain if he/she is willing to do it. For PTSD it may be important to have your old CO write it, but, your new CO may feel comfortable hearing the opinions of your supervisors and then writing his or her own letter. I had a similar situation to yours, (new CO came in and knew nothing about me) but not the same condition.
